Gathering data for a pupil account-based survey - the do’s and don'ts

Tips on gathering pupil data for an account based (distributed via emails or using login codes) survey.

Mandatory respondent properties

In order for us to create respondent accounts for pupils, we will always need this information for each pupil - schoolyear groupclass / tutor groupfirst namelast name.

Use full school name/-s

This will help us map the school/-s in your dataset with school information on the registry.

Year group

Make sure that the naming convention (whatever it is - Year X, YX, X or other) is consistent through out the dataset.

Choose between adding class or tutor group

This property will be used to group pupils together on the pages. Choose adding class or tutor group, depending in what setting will the pupils complete the survey.

Tips for adding additional respondent properties

As you already know, if you're running an account based survey for pupils, we're able to import various additional respondent properties to make your results analysis richer. Here are tips on how to create a good dataset that will help you later in the analysis as all of these will become filters.

Fill all cells

Make sure you have all cells filled! If there will be an empty cell, our technical team will import the cell with value “Not Known” or similar.

Choose larger subcategories

Having many different filter options will make it hard to analyse the survey results.

The platform won't also allow to filter any group with less than 3 respondents, so you may not be able to filter out certain minorities. The less options the better.
